State Comptroller Has Concerns With Rockland's Budget

The New York State Comptroller says he is concerned with the budget in one Hudson Valley county.

Rockland County’s 2013 budget contains unreasonable revenue and spending projections that could increase the county’s deficit. So warned State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, who added that the challenges in Rockland demonstrate the need for local governments to take corrective actions before a full financial crisis develops. DiNapoli’s budget findings include that county officials may have been overly optimistic about the amount budgeted for tax revenues, and the budget appropriation for personal services costs, too low. The Rockland County Legislature is required to prepare a plan of action that addresses DiNapoli’s recommendations within 90 days. Requests for comment from legislature members were not answered.
