A two-week delay in the first furlough warnings to civilian employees at West Point and other federal installations will harm the workers even more, according to American Federation of Government Employees Local 2367 Vice President James McCabe.
He said cutting two weeks off the furlough time at the US Military Academy and elsewhere will hurt workers even more than the original plan.
“The original target number was 176 hours per employee over 22 weeks,” McCabe said. “If we are down to 20 now, that 176 still remains the same but the length of time is shorter, so that means something has got to give.”
McCabe said Congress could have ended the sequester when it passed the latest continuing resolution. “Now they want to delay the inevitable and harm those who can least afford it even more.”
