Artist Talk and Reading: Saturday, November 19, 1:00 p.m.
Philip Memmer is the author of six books of poems, including most recently Cairns (Lost Horse Press, 2022) and Pantheon (Lost Horse Press, 2019). His poems have appeared in many journals and He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including two Hawthornden Fellowships. Since 2000 Memmer has served as Executive Director of the Arts Branch of the YMCA of Central New York in Syracuse, where he founded the YMCA’s Downtown Writers Center in 2001. He also is Publisher at Tiger Bark Press, and occasionally teaches creative writing at Hamilton College.
Poet Memmer will offer readings from Cairn at the artist talk on November 19 where he will be joined by artist John Fitzsimmons who will discuss his art and his collaboration with the poet. Fitzsimmons describes his art as “stories that cannot be expressed verbally. It can only be expressed by an image.” His work has been shown at numerous solo and group exhibits and his illustrations grace numerous books and journals. He is a Fine Arts graduate of SUNY New Paltz, the Art Academy of Cincinnati (painting), and was first alternate for the Whitney Independent Study Program.
