2024 NYS Tree Climbing Championship in Washington Park
WHAT: Tree care professionals from across New York State will demonstrate speed, skill, and excellence on June 22 when they compete in the New York State Tree Climbing Championship at Washington Park in Albany, NY.
WHO: New York State Arborists President, Angelo Schembari; TCC Chairs, Josh Galiley, Trevor Hall, and Mark Moeske; 2023 TCC Champion, Sam Schunk
WHEN: Gear inspection will take place Friday, June 21, 3-7 p.m. The Tree Climbing Championship will be held Saturday, June 22 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
WHERE: Washington Park near the Englewood Place entrance, Albany, NY
WHY: Up to 27 competitors who work for tree care companies across the state will show off their skills in events including Work Climb, Speed Climb, Aerial Rescue, Throwline and the Ascent Event. The top finishers go on to compete in the Masters’ Challenge. The winner of that event will be named State Champion and will represent New York at the ISA International Tree Climbing Championship.
The competition is sponsored by the New York State Arborists (NYSA). NYSA offers special thanks to Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and her office, Albany City Arborist Jay Lavigne and the Department of General Services, and the University at Albany for their support in hosting the 2024 Tree Climbing Championship.
NEW: NYSA welcomes spectators and has partnered with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) this year to offer information and family-friendly activities at the event, including a touch-a-truck, scavenger hunt, plant ID challenge, and more. NYSA members will also staff an “Ask the Arborists” table to answer questions from the public about tree care.
The New York State Arborists, International Society of Arboriculture Chapter, Inc. is an association of professional arborists and educators that promotes public interest and fosters research and education in the care and benefits of trees, shrubs, and their environment.
