Any Questions? #111

WAMC's Ian Pickus and resident quizzer Mike Nothnagel welcome another guest to play.

Last week's challenge
Start with the name of a famous literary figure who went by his initials. Take the initials and the first letter of his last name, rearrange those letters, and you can spell a word in the title of this author's most famous work. Who is the author and what is the word?
Answer: The author is E. B. WHITE, and the word is WEB (as in Charlotte's Web).

THIS WEEK'S CATEGORY: ELEVATORS
On-air questions: We welcome another Guest Answerer. Neville Fogarty is a graduate student in mathematics at the University of Kentucky and – perhaps more importantly – a loyal listener of Any Questions? As Neville's followers know, his Twitter handle is @flyingelevator (can you figure out why?), so we'll see how much he really knows about elevators.

1. Sharing its name with an Egyptian city, the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas has atrium elevators that travel on a 39-degree incline. This is due to the architecture of the building, which is shaped like a what?
2. The 1997 version of TV Guide's "100 Greatest Episodes of All Time" has at No. 91 an episode of what drama, during which attorney Rosalind Shays falls down an empty elevator shaft?
3. The type of elevator known as a paternoster (which means "our father" in Latin) was so named because the continuously-looping passenger compartments are reminiscent of what objects, often used when reciting the Lord's Prayer?
4. Hailing from Austin, TX, the 13th Floor Elevators are often credited as one of the first bands in what genre of rock, which was influenced by 1960s drug culture, and later included Jefferson Airplane and Pink Floyd?
5. The 1971 film adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ends with a scene in a glass elevator (which sets up the plot for the book's sequel). Which three characters are in the elevator as it crashes through the roof of the factory?

Extra credit
1. Music for Elevators is a 2002 album co-written and co-performed by Anthony Stewart Head. The album was released while Head was starring on what television show created by Joss Whedon, who wrote one of the songs on the album?
2. Located next to Volkswagen's headquarters, the Autostadt Silos are where newly-built cars are transported via conveyor belt through a half-mile-long underground elevator shaft to a bay in one of the silos. Because this system doesn't require any driving, a car that is picked up at the silo will have what uncommon characteristic?

This week's challenge
Start with the name of the founder of a famous elevator company, ELISHA OTIS. Drop one letter, then rearrange the result to spell something that would be unpleasant for someone to have if you were in an elevator with them. What is it?
