On this week’s 51%, a jazz musician talks about contracting COVID-19; and three generations of women keep an olive farm in production in California. I’m Allison Dunne and this is 51%.

That’s Tara O’Grady, the subject of our first story as Dr. Sharon Ufberg returns with her 51% segment “Force of Nature.” Initially, her interview was supposed to focus solely on jazz music and a book. But when her interviewee contracted COVID-19, the subject matter shifted. Ufberg speaks with Tara O’Grady, a self-acclaimed bliss ambassador. O’Grady, a former English teacher turned jazz blues singer, recording artist and songwriter, has released five albums of jazz, blues and folk music and performs worldwide with her band .She lives in New York City, in Queens, and shares how COVID-19 impacted her health and profession.

Dr. Sharon Ufberg is co-founder of the personal development/wellness company, Borrowed Wisdom, in California.

And here’s Tara O’Grady performing “I Want To Go To There,” It’s about all the places she wants to go. And she says being in quarantine made her want to travel all the more. Plus, I think we all could use a little pick me up.

The California Gold Rush may be over but in the Sierra Foothills, it's still possible to strike it rich. Producer Pamela Lorence spent a day learning how to harvest olives and press them into golden olive oil.

That’s our show for this week. Thanks to Tina Renick for production assistance. Our executive producer is Dr. Alan Chartock. Our theme music is Glow in the Dark by Kevin Bartlett. This show is a national production of Northeast Public Radio. If you’d like to hear this show again, sign up for our podcast, or visit the 51% archives on our web site at wamc.org.
