Newsweek had a disturbing report earlier this month that details studies claiming that our addiction to our technology is making us unhinged. Americans now spent at least eight hours a day in front of computer. Teenagers spend 11 hours on an average school day when you add in multitasking on several devices. The average teen gets or sends 3700 texts a month – two times the average four years ago.
Studies now show our cyborg existence is making us irritable, depressed, anxious and compulsive. Chances are the technology isn’t going away – and that means there’s a whole field of specialists concentrating on how to eliminate at least some of the most problematic issues. Judith Donath is a theorist and designer of social media – and currently a faculty fellow at Harvard.

London has the world’s attention, with the summer Olympic games bringing much-needed tourist dollars and plenty of logistical nightmares. And quietly, far to the east, the mad Olympic scramble is beginning in another location. Russia's southern-most city is gearing up to host the Winter Olympics in 2014. Russian president Vladimir Putin says hosting the Games is a long-time dream for his country, but many residents say Olympic construction has become a nightmare. Julia Barton reports.
