Early in the new school year, officials in Lenox, Massachusetts are noticing an uptick in enrollment.
The Lenox School Committee says its first headcount shows an increase in first- and seventh-grade students this year.
The School Committee says the growth is from more residents choosing to place their children in local public schools – bringing the district total to 770.
Last year, the School Committee limited school choice enrollment districtwide to 40 percent – 50 percent for each individual grade – to compete with other areas, where it can be cheaper to live.
A final headcount will be reported to the state by October 1st.
