Tune in for Special July 4th Programming

Beginning at 9AM, right after Morning Edition, we'll meet Andrew Forsthoefel, who set out at age 23 to walk across America, East to West, 4000 miles, with a sign on him that said, "Walking to Listen" in Walking Across America ~ Advice for a Young Man. At 10AM, back by popular demand, we're re-airing the Richie Havens Retrospective special. FM Odyssey brings us this rare, intimate, in studio interview with Richie that recreates his 5 decades in music, digging deep into his catalog of songs with great music and stories. 11AM brings the annual Capitol Steps production of Politics Takes a Holiday.

Noon brings your daily dose of news with Brian Shields and Midday Magazine. At 1PM we'll begin a back to back episodes of The Power of Words. The first will be a classic episode from the original series, and at 2PM we'll hear Barbara Jordan's 1976 keynote address to the Democratic National Convention, as read by Nobel Peace Prize nominee Barbara Smith.

At 3PM, Alan will have a sit down with a political mover & shaker on The Capitol Connection, and 3:30 will bring us local news on Northeast Report. All Things Considered will kick off at 4PM.

To end the day of special programming we'll head to Washington DC as NPR broadcasts live from the West Lawn of the United States Capitol for A Capitol Fourth 2013. Hosted by Emmy Award-winning TV personality Tom Bergeron and NPR's Korva Coleman, the event features performances from some of America's best known celebrities and musical artists.

This year's concert stars music legend Barry Manilow, who is back by popular demand following his powerful debut performance on the show in 2009. It also features performances by Candice Glover, the Season 12 winner of American Idol; country music artist Scotty McCreery; actor and singer Darren Criss; classical crossover star Jackie Evancho; Broadway and TV star Megan Hilty; and five-time Academy Award-winner John Williams conducting music from the Oscar-winning film Lincoln with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.
