The end of the Boston Olympic bid came quickly on Monday when Mayor Marty Walsh announced in the morning he would not sign a host city agreement without assurances that no taxpayer money would be spent on the 2024 games. Then, after a conference with Governor Charlie Baker, officials with the U.S. Olympic Committee announced that Boston was out of the running. Andrew Zimbalist, a professor of economics at Smith College, and the author of Circus Maximus: The Economic Gamble Behind Hosting the Olympics and World Cup said the events of Monday came rapidly, but were building to a boil-over.
