Springfield, MA – Drivers across Massachusetts are being warned to stop for school buses, or face the consequences. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...

About 125 police departments are participating in an undercover crackdown on drivers who fail to stop, as the law requires, for school buses that are picking up or dropping off students.

The state program, coordinated by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, coincides with national school bus safety week. Violators face a $250 fine, but a second ticket within two years can result in a fine up to $2,000 and a six month license suspension.

Even if a police officer does not witness the violation, school bus drivers who see the license plate of a vehicle that fails to stop, can submit a form to request charges against the operator.
