MLB:

In baseball, in the American League, the Yankees doubled up Minnesota 8-4, Boston crushed Cleveland 9-1, Seattle edged Texas 3-2, Houston slid past Tampa Bay 3-2 in 10 innings, and it was the Angels over the White Sox 5-3.

In the National League, Pittsburgh edged Arizona 9-8 in 15 innings, Miami trumped Milwaukee 9-6, San Francisco blanked St. Louis 2-0, Washington bested Colorado 15-6, and it was San Diego over Atlanta 9-0.

In interleague play, the Mets beat Baltimore 5-3, Toronto topped Philadelphia 8-5, Kansas City edged Cincinnati 3-1 in 13 innings, Detroit bested the Cubs 10-8, and it was Oakland over the Dodgers 5-4 in 10 innings.

The Boston Red Sox announced a front office shake-up late in the game yesterday. Dave Dombrowski has been hired to take over baseball operations for general manager Ben Cherington. Although the Red Sox have been winning of late, Boston is in danger of finishing last in the AL East for the third time in four seasons.

NFL:

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy hurt his left hamstring during a joint practice with Cleveland and is having tests to determine the extent of the injury. Coach Rex Ryan said trainers informed him the hamstring is intact and has not been pulled off the bone, which he described as "a real positive." McCoy led the NFL with 1,607 yards rushing in 2013 while with Philadelphia. He was acquired by the Bills in a trade for linebacker Kiko Alonso this offseason.

The Jets have claimed tight end Arthur Lynch off waivers from the Miami Dolphins and waived punter Jacob Schum. Lynch was a fifth-round draft pick last year out of Georgia, but spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a back injury. The Jets made the move yesterday to add depth to the tight ends spot with Jace Amaro and Steve Maneri banged up.

NBA:

Kiki VanDeWeghe has been promoted to executive vice president of basketball operations for the NBA.

VanDeWeghe had been serving as senior vice president of basketball operations. He joined the league office in 2013 after working as general manager with the New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets.

Rod Thorn, president of basketball operations, retired this month after more than 50 years as a player, coach and executive in professional basketball.

Legal:

There will be a court hearing in New York Wednesday regarding Tom Brady's four-game suspension for his role in "Deflategate." According to two people, the Patriots QB and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met in settlement discussions Tuesday, but no accord was reached.

WNBA:

In the WNBA, Tulsa beat Phoenix 74-59 and it was Indiana over Los Angeles 79-68.

Olympics:

The organizers of Boston's failed bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics are disputing a state-funded report that says they underestimated costs and could have left taxpayers on the hook for significant overruns. Boston 2024 says the Brattle Group didn't critique the detailed construction budgets that organizers gave them. The organizers say the consultants' report was a "simple comparison" between Boston's plan and those of past host cities.

IAAF:

Sebastian Coe has won a four-year term as president of the governing body for track and field, beating Sergei Bubka in an election Wednesday and given the mandate to restore the image of the IAAF amid a doping controversy. The 58-year-old Coe replaces Lamine Diack, who stepped down after 16 years.
