ESPN is reporting that the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired shortstop Jimmy Rollins from the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s unclear what Philadelphia acquired in exchange for the 36-year-old Rollins, a three-time All-Star shortstop who won the National League MVP in 2007.

NHL:

Over on the ice, Toronto edged Detroit in a shootout 2-1, and it was Anaheim over Edmonton 2-1.

NFL:

Carolina Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton has been discharged from the hospital following a two-car crash on Tuesday that left the two-time Pro Bowl QB with two fractures in his lower back. Newton has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Derek Anderson will start instead.

The NFL has a new personal conduct policy. Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the changes from the owner's meetings in Irving, Texas. A special counsel for investigations and conduct will oversee initial discipline. The commissioner also may appoint a panel of independent experts to participate in deciding an appeal. Under the new plan Goodell will retain authority to rule on appeals.
