Sports Report: NFL Continues Reported Ball Deflation Invesitgation

NFL:

The NFL says its investigation into whether the New England Patriots used under-inflated footballs in the AFC championship game is ongoing after a report last night claimed the league found 11 balls were not properly inflated. An ESPN report citing anonymous league sources said 11 of the Patriots' 12 allotted game footballs were under-inflated by 2 pounds of air.

Gary Kubiak is back as a coach for the Denver Broncos, a team in which he spent most of his career with, as a player and coach.

He said he was prepared to remain Baltimore's offensive coordinator after turning down opportunities to interview for two other head coaching jobs. He says he changed his mind after hearing from Broncos president John Elway.

Kubiak spent 13 seasons either backing up Elway at quarterback or drawing up blueprints as his offensive coordinator.

Meanwhile former Bears head coach Marc Trestman has been named the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, replacing Gary Kubiak.

Doug Marrone has joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as assistant head coach and offensive line coach after one season as Buffalo's head coach.

The New York Jets have hired Chan Gailey as their offensive coordinator.

Vic Fangio becomes the Bears' defensive coordinator after four seasons in that capacity with San Francisco.

The Redskins hired San Diego linebackers coach Joe Barry, who was once in charge of the only 0-16 defense in NFL history.

Bill Musgrave has been hired as the Raiders offensive coordinator under new head coach Jack Del Rio.

NBA:

In the NBA, Oklahoma City bested Miami 94-86, and it was San Antonio over Denver 109-99.

NHL:

Over on the ice, the Rangers topped Ottawa in overtime 3-2, Boston bested Dallas 3-1, Montreal edged Nashville in overtime 2-1, Philadelphia skated past Pittsburgh in overtime 3-2, Detroit beat Minnesota in a shootout 5-4, Edmonton defeated Washington in a shootout 5-4, Tampa Bay won against Vancouver 4-1, and it was Chicago over Arizona 6-1.

NCAA:

In top 25 men’s college basketball, No. 1 Kentucky beat Vanderbilt 65-57, No. 6 Wisconsin won against No. 25 Iowa 82-50, and it was No. 9 Iowa St. over Kansas State 77-71.

Olympics:

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh says he opposes putting the city's 2024 Olympics bid before voters. Opponents of bringing the Olympics to Boston have raised the possibility of collecting enough signatures to place a question on a statewide ballot.

Olympic pole vault champion Jenn Suhr thinks a Boston Olympics would give the Americans a big advantage in 2024. Suhr won a silver medal at the Beijing Games and gold in London in 2012. She says performing in front of a supportive crowd helps all of the home country's athletes. Suhr was in Boston yesterday to train for the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix at the Reggie Lewis Center.

MLB:

The Giants got a good look at outfielder Nori Aoki during the World Series when they met and beat the Royals. They apparently liked what they saw as the Giants have come to terms on a one-year, $4.7 million contract with the free agent. Aoki hit .285 with a home run, six triples, 22 doubles and 43 RBIs over 132 games in his lone season with the Royals after two in Milwaukee. He also stole 17 bases.
