Sports Report: Giants Snap 7-Game Losing Streak With 36-7 Win Over Titans

NFL football

NFL:

Eli Manning threw for 260 yards and a touchdown, and the New York Giants snapped a seven-game skid by routing the Tennessee Titans 36-7 yesterday, Denver bested Buffalo 24-17, New England won against San Diego 23-14, and it was Minnesota over the New York Jets in overtime 30-24. Meanwhile Baltimore beat Miami 28-13, Carolina bested New Orleans 41-10, Houston won against Jacksonville 27-13, Indianapolis edged Cleveland 25-24, Pittsburgh doubled up Cincinnati 42-21, St. Louis blanked Washington 24-0, Detroit beat Tampa Bay 24-17, Arizona bested Kansas City 17-14, Oakland defeated San Francisco 24-13, and it was Seattle over Philadelphia 24-14.

NBA:

In the NBA, Boston topped Washington 101-93, and Portland trumped New York 103-99. Elsewhere Atlanta beat Denver 96-84, Memphis defeated Miami 103-87, Oklahoma City bested Detroit 96-94, Dallas topped Milwaukee 125-102, and it was New Orleans over the Lakers 104-87.

NHL:

Over on the ice, Anaheim beat Winnipeg in overtime 4-3, Detroit defeated Carolina 3-1, Ottawa edged Vancouver in overtime 4-3, and it was Edmonton over San Jose 2-1.

NCAA:

The College Football Playoff selection committee has made its final decision: Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State will participate in the first playoff in major college football history. Alabama and Oregon were shoo-ins following lopsided wins in their respective conference title games, but the last two spots were up for grabs until late Saturday night.

In men’s college basketball, Fairfield beat rival Quinnipiac 56-52.

Olympics:

The International Olympic Committee has approved a new bidding process to make the system less costly and more flexible to attract future candidate cities. Meanwhile the IOC also approved plans for a more flexible sports program, a move that could lead to the inclusion of baseball and softball at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Golf:

Justin Spieth dominated the Hero World Challenge by finishing 26 shots under par, 10 in front of Henrik Stenson. Spieth closed out the tournament with a final round 6-under-66.

Tiger Woods wound up tied for last place at even par after a final round even-par 72. He shared the bottom spot with Hunter Mahan who finished with a last round 3-over-75.
