O'Brien To Coach Houston, No. 2 Syracuse Beats Eastern Michigan 70-48

The Houston Texans have found a new head coach.

Penn State's Bill O'Brien has reached an agreement to coach the Texans that is expected to be announced by Saturday.

O'Brien spent two years at Penn State and was an offensive assistant with the Patriots for five years before that.

In college football, No. 17 UCLA and NO. 20 Texas A&M won their bowl games on New Year's Eve. Brett Hundley threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others as the Bruins ripped Virginia Tech 42-12. Johnny Manziel starred in the Aggie's 52-48 win over No. 22 Duke, throwing for 382 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for 73 yards and a TD.

In the NBA, Atlanta beat Boston 92-91. San Antonio topped Brooklyn 113-92. It was Indiana over Cleveland 91-76. Golden State defeated Orlando 94-81. Sacramento beat Houston 110-106. Portland slid past Oklahoma City 98-94. Toronto beat Chicago 85-79 and the Lakers fell to Milwaukee 94-79.

In college hoops, Jerami Grant scored 15 points in his first start of the season as second-ranked Syracuse trounced Eastern Michigan 70-48. Third-ranked Ohio St. beat Purdue 78-69 and fifth-ranked Michigan St. topped Penn St. 79-63.

Elsewhere, Pitt had a 58-46 victory over UAlbany.

Checking news on the ice, the NY Rangers beat Florida 2-1 in a shootout. Winnipeg shut out Buffalo 3-0. Carolina defeated Montreal 5-4 in overtime. The NY Islanders topped Boston 5-3. Anaheim doubled up San Jose 6-3. It was Phoenix over Edmonton 4-3 in overtime and Philadelphia beat Calgary 4-1.
