24-7 Dad Program Hits 10th Anniversary In Berkshire County

National Fatherhood Initiative

A national program on parenting education for fathers is celebrating 10 years in Berkshire County.

Frank Busener has led the county’s chapter of the National Fatherhood Initiative’s 24-7 Dad program since Sheriff Tom Bowler brought it to the Berkshires in 2011.

“We discuss everything as far as what the role is as a dad, communication skills," said Busener. "Discipline is a hot topic, co-parenting, how do we communicate. We address spirituality, in a sense, as far as, you know, things we’re connected to. Some of the stuff maybe we were taught, growing up is open for revision. We might look at that and say that really wasn't effective.”

24-7 Dad is run by the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction in collaboration with 18 Degrees in Pittsfield and the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition in North Adams.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. You can reach him at jlandes@wamc.org with questions, tips, and/or feedback.
