The Philadelphia Orchestra season returns to SPAC August 11-14. They have a record number of women and black, Indigenous and people of color composers this season – with Valerie Coleman being one of them and among the world’s most performed living composers.

Her piece, Seven O’Clock Shout, will have its SPAC Premiere on August 12 and was composed as a tribute to frontline workers during the pandemic. According to Coleman, “Seven O’Clock Shout is a declaration of our survival. It is something that allows us our agency to take back the kindness that is in our hearts and the emotions that cause us such turmoil.
