The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation wants to develop a plan to manage increased use of the Adirondack High Peaks region.
The DEC announced the creation of the High Peaks Strategic Planning Advisory Group to find ways to balance the increased public use with protection of natural resources.

Five goals have been identified including public safety, natural resource protection, quality recreational experiences, local economic vitality and decisions based on science.

The Advisory Group will begin meeting this fall to create policy recommendations and identify actions for implementation.
