In 1903, the first successful powered flight was accomplished by the Wright brothers in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

118 years later, NASA is preparing for the first powered flight on another planet.

The small Ingenuity helicopter traveled to Mars attached to the Perseverance rover, which landed in February, and it’s preparing for its big moment.

To learn more about the Ingenuity’s upcoming mission, WAMC's Lucas Willard spoke with Dave Lavery, Program Executive for Solar System Exploration at NASA Headquarters.

Lucas Willard is a news reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011. He produces and hosts The Best of Our Knowledge and WAMC Listening Party.
