Governor Announces Legislation To End AIDS Epidemic

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced legislation to fight the AIDS epidemic in New York.

The legislation announced Sunday would allow HIV-related information to be shared with care coordinators and care managers, streamline HIV testing and extend the upper age limit for the New York State HIV Testing Law beyond 64, allow young people access to HIV treatment and  prevention without parental consent, and expand opportunities for STD testing.

Cuomo says the steps will allow New York to lead by example in combating AIDS. The governor's office says the legislation aims at dropping the number of new HIV infections from an estimated 3,000 annually to 750 by 2020.
