Snow-Starved Northeast Will Finally See A Winter Storm

After a stretch that's been more like spring than winter, the first major snowstorm of the season is headed toward the Northeast.

Many longstanding weather records were shattered over Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The Albany area broke the record for latest snowfall, which was last set on Christmas Eve in 1912.

The coming storm is bad news for motorists: A mix of sleet, freezing rain, snow and gusting winds is expected along the Southern Tier, in the Catskills and Finger Lakes region, and from Syracuse to Utica.

Snow will start falling Monday night, with northern New York and much of Vermont expecting to get 3 to 7 inches by Tuesday. Up to 12 inches is expected in parts of New Hampshire and Maine before the snow turns into sleet and freezing rain. The Capital Region may see 1 to 4 inches. Connecticut and Massachusetts expect less snow.
