Remington Arms Calls Back Laid-Off Employees

Remington Arms has recalled most workers laid off last August and November at its upstate New York plant.

Herkimer County Administrator Jim Wallace says state labor department officials have been told that workload has increased, but there has been no official comment from Remington Arms.

Last year, the company laid off 231 employees in Ilion — 105 in August and 126 in November. Officials said the layoffs were because of a soft gun market.

Remington Arms also built a new facility in Alabama in 2014, and the company plans to employ up to 2,000 people there.

Some of the jobs that have been cut in Ilion were moved to that new facility.
