Hayworth: Time To End Hydrofracking Ban

Former New York Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, a Republican who represented the Hudson Valley last term, is running to take back the 18th district seat from Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney. Speaking on WAMC’s Congressional Corner, Hayworth says she believes it is time for New York to end its de facto moratorium on hydraulic fracturing.

"I think it’s time for the state of New York to say look, we can start doing this," Hayworth said. "We’ll start off small, but build from there if we can do it with appropriate protections for the environment."

"I think that the balance of the evidence, overwhelmingly, is that recovering natural gas is something that can be done in an appropriate way that protects groundwater and protects populations living in these areas and given that, again, natural gas is such a clean carbon based fuel, we ought to be doing this," Hayworth added.
