Army Engineers Say Hudson Lock at Troy Reopening

Troy, NY – The Army Corps of Engineers says the Hudson River lock it operates in Troy is set to reopen after divers cleared away submerged debris carried by flooding over the past couple of weeks. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...

The corps says divers and other crews removed 2,000 cubic yards of debris, ranging from small branches to entire trees and docks carried off by flood waters from Irene and Lee's torrential rains.

The divers also checked out the lock for any damage.

It will be available for boaters again starting today, operating daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., until the navigation season ends on November 30th.

The lock was built in 1916 and connects the Hudson to the state canal system. The corps says 4,000 vessels passed through in 2010.
