Albany, NY – Union officials say thousands of striking workers will join picket lines and rallies at more than 100 Verizon work locations across New York and New Jersey. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...

"What do we want? Contract. When do we want? Now!"

The contract for 45,000 employees from Massachusetts to Washington, D.C., expired at midnight Saturday without agreement on issues including health care costs and pensions.

The dispute doesn't affect the wireless division.

Verizon says it's asking for contract changes because it says its land-line business has been declining for more than a decade.

The union says the company wants worker concessions at a time when it's making billions in profits and top executives are making millions in salary.

Picketing throughout the state today includes Verizon's Manhattan headquarters and facilities on Long Island and in Albany, Schenectady, Poughkeepsie, Potsdam, and Buffalo.
