Albany, NY – On the death of September 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, experts are weighing in with their comments and reactions. Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas spoke with academics about the effects on U.S. politics, the global economy and the balance of power.

Joshua Dyck, is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University at Buffalo - he says the death of bin Laden casts a long shadow over the national political landscape - especially over the Republicans. Dyck believes any outside chance billionaire Donald Trump could have been nominated by the GOP to run for president has effectively been squashed.

Dr. Ben Clansy, Associate Professor of Political Science at the College of St. Rose in Albany, thinks the event shows resilience of the part of the commander-in-chief, and will likely have a long-term impact.

Cristian Tiu is a Professor of Finance at UBuffalo - he believes that the blow dealt to al-Qaeda strengthens international financial confidence in the U.S.

Tiu warns of instability in Pakistan, depending on whether it can be determined the country was knowingly harboring bin Laden, which could jeopardize Pakistan's status as a U.S. ally. He says an unstable or aggressive Pakistan may also hamper the economic coming of their neighbor, India.
