Albany, NY – Social upheaval in North Africa may ultimately affect every person on the planet - a noted author and professor is scheduled to speak tonight in Troy, New York about the Revolution in Egypt - Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas has a preview
Vijay Prashad is the Director and Professor of International Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut - he's coming to the area to speak about the crisis in Egypt and the implications of revolution beyond... John Flanders is an organizer who helped make Prashad's visit to the Capital Region possible. He first heard Prashad speak in Vermont last fall, read Prashad's book, followed his writings on the internet. The two eventually became "Facebook Friends" - and made contact through the social network. (Prashad dismisses those who say social media was the trigger to Arab Revolution in North Africa.)
Professor Prashad says not only is this an important time in history - but everyone should have a basic understanding of what is actually happening and how it will affect mankind: he notes US has oil, economic and world security interests in the region - an area he says we should look at with a "dispassionate, analytical eye."
Prashad's talk involves why the revolt is happening now and what it means, as well as the opportunities it presents Americans. "Crisis in Egypt: Its Meaning for the World" with Author and Professor Vijay Prashad is scheduled for tonight at 7 at the Oakwood Community Center, 313 10th St., Troy, NY
