Albany, NY – A program that took a big bite out of crime in the city of Albany is gearing up for a second round... Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports.

In his ongoing mission to make New York's Capital City a "gun-free zone," Victory Church Pastor Charlie Muller is calling on some heavy-hitters in government, business and law enforcement to give his landmark "Gun Buy-Back" initiative a re-charge. Under the buyback program, those who turn guns in may do so anonymously and are given a gift card that can be redeemed at a local shopping mall... the idea has caught on in other cities across the state.

City and county law enforcement officials, as well as federal authorities, are impressed with the buyback initiative. Thanks to a new infusion of funding, including checks presented today from the Albany County District Attorney's Office and the Mayor of Albany, the program will go forward.

Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings promises to rally local businesses and civic leaders. Jennings is up for re-election this year and faces a challenge in this month's primary. A spokesman for mayoral candidate Corey Ellis says the councilman was invited to Pastor Muller's announcement but was unable to attend due to a prior commitment.

Walmart has donated 500 backpacks, 30 Coolers and 15 BMX bicycles for various Victory Church programs that indirectly support the anti-gun initiative.
