Effort, Pennsylvania – Debra Hartley started walking on July 3rd...and doesn't plan to stop until later this month. The Pennsylvania grandmother and former Poconos regional police officer says her goal is the White House, where she hopes to meet the First Lady and explain why the reasons she had to quit the job she loved are shared by women officers all over the country. The Hudson Valley recently had headlines that support that claim - five women corrections officers at the Ulster County Jail have filed suit, saying the were the victims of ongoing sexual harassment and gender bias on the job. Hudson Valley bureau chief Susan Barnett spoke with Hartley as she continued her walk.

Hartley hopes to meet with Pennsylvania's governor in Harrisburg as she walks through, and expects to be in Washington DC by the end of the month. The entire walk is about 220 miles.
