As the cleanup continues after the Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City, another big balloon parade will step off in western Massachusetts.
A 75-foot tall helium-filled Cat in the Hat balloon towers above all the rest in Springfield’s Parade of the Big Balloons.
The annual parade will step off down Main Street at 11 a.m. Friday,
No matter the weather, the parade typically attracts tens of thousands of spectators according to Judy Matt, president Spirit of Springfield, which produces the parade.
" We have things that children primarily enjoy," explained Matt. "(There) are musical contingents and lots of groups from the community marching in the parade."
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is this year’s parade marshall.
