A Vermont warming shelter is seeking volunteers and meal donations ahead of its opening for the winter season.
Northeast Kingdom Human Services executive director Jenna O'Farrell says the St. Johnsbury Warming Shelter will open Nov. 15.
O'Farrell tells the Caledonian-Record they have seen an increase in people served and bed stays over the past two years. There were 38 people in the 2016-2017 season compared to 44 people last year, and 570 bed stays compared to 613.
Shelter steering committee member Susan Cherry says they are looking for a larger location for the shelter, which currently has only 10 beds.
She says the ultimate goal of the shelter is to help find people housing.
