Two Berkshire County nonprofits have been nominated for statewide awards.

The Massachusetts Nonprofit Network selected the Berkshire Immigrant Center and the Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires as finalists for their 2018 Nonprofit Excellence Awards. Brook Meade is executive director of the Berkshire Immigrant Center, based in Pittsfield. She said the nomination was "completely thrilling, and definitely- especially in this climate- feels pretty validating about the importance of our work.”

The winner of the award will be named June 4th, Nonprofit Awareness Day, at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
