Democrats Push Vote On Sen. Markey's Net Neutrality Measure

wikipedia.org

Senate Democrats are making a final push to gather support needed for U.S. Sen. Edward Markey's effort to undo the Federal Communications Commission's repeal of Obama-era internet net neutrality rules.

The Massachusetts Democrat and New York Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer are planning to officially file Markey's discharge petition on Wednesday aimed at reinstating the rules.

Net neutrality advocates say they're also launching a day of action Wednesday focused on securing the one more vote needed to pass Markey's resolution.

All 49 members of the Senate Democratic caucus support the resolution. Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins also backs the measure.

Markey said that in 2018 access to a free and open internet isn't a privilege, it's a right.

The deadline for a Senate vote on Markey's resolution is June 12th.
