A new commander has been assigned to a western Massachusetts military base.
Westover Air Force Reserve Base in Chicopee will change commanders on June 4th.
U.S. Air Force Col. Scott Durham, currently in charge of an air wing at Dover, Delaware, will succeed Brig. Gen. Jay Jensen, who is heading to an assignment at the Pentagon.
Durham will be the third commander at Westover in less than three years, according to base spokesman Sergeant Andrew Biscoe.
"We have been fortunate to have very talented and experienced leaders during the time Westover has been a reserve base," Biscoe said.
Westover’s fleet of C-5 cargo planes was cut in half following budget cuts in 2015. The number of jobs on the base was also reduced, but it remains one of the region’s largest employers.
