An interfaith vigil is scheduled for this evening at the Jewish Community Center in Springfield, Massachusetts where a bomb threat forced an evacuation a week ago.
The vigil, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., is organized by the Interfaith Council of Western Massachusetts.
In a statement, the organization said it was “devastated” by the reports of bomb threats at 29 Jewish Community Centers around the country last week.
Springfield Roman Catholic Bishop Mitchell Rozanski is among the faith-based leaders who have spoke out against the rise in anti-Semitic acts.
" It shows there is still evil, there is still hate in our country," Rozanski commented following the noon Ash Wednesday Mass last week at St. Michael's Cathedral.
Mayor Domenic Sarno pledged increased police patrols at the Springfield Jewish Community Center following the bomb threats.
