Two public forums have been scheduled on the resettlement of refugees, possibly including some from war-torn Syria, in western Massachusetts.
Catholic Charities of Springfield, which has contracted with the U.S. State Department to resettle 51 refugees, is hosting the information forums on Sept. 19 and Sept. 22 in Northampton.
The agency’s director, Katheryn Buckley-Brawner, said they have been working with local leaders to find housing and employment for the refugees.
" This is a partnership," said Buckley-Brawner.
The Northampton City Council voted unanimously this year to declare the city a sanctuary for refugees from the Syrian civil war.
The first refugee families are expected to arrive by January.
