Ban Rescinded On Felt-Soled Waders

Vermont’s ban on the use of felt-soled waders repealed as of July 1

Vermont is rescinding a five year ban on felt-soled waders.
Anglers were prohibited from using felt-soled waders and boots in 2011 because of concerns about the spread of didymo, a nuisance algae that was spreading in trout rivers. The porous felt on the  boot bottoms helps prevent slipping on rocks, but could also transport the algae spores from one body of water to another.

While anglers can use the waders effective July 1st the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department cautions that all equipment should be thoroughly cleaned and dried to prevent any aquatic invasives spreading to another waterbody.
