PFOA Testing Area Expanding In Bennington And North Bennington

PFOA formula

Testing for PFOA in drinking water wells will continue in Bennington and North Bennington, Vermont.

Governor Peter Shumlin provided an update Wednesday, saying that of 432 private wells tested to date, 227 were found to contain PFOA concentrations over Vermont’s 20 parts per trillion health advisory level. Fifty wells tested contained concentrations below the advisory level and 155 did not contain the chemical.

Well sampling will continue next week and the testing area will be expanded to homes with private wells on East Road and north of the former Bennington Landfill, and along Town Line Road and Harwood Hill Road in the Town of Bennington.

The industrial chemical used in manufacturing non-stick and insulating materials has been linked to the former Chemfab plant in North Bennington.
