While debate continues on the issue in Congress, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy wants to stop people on government watch lists from being able to buy guns.The Democrat announced what he called a first in the nation executive order to ban people on the lists from getting a permit to buy a gun, which is required in Connecticut. Malloy says he working with the White House to get access to the lists.
“I want to make sure people in Connecticut are as safe as possible,” said Malloy.
Gun rights advocates oppose the watch list proposal saying it violates the rights of people who have not been convicted of a crime. Malloy says he making the move in response to terrorist attacks in Paris and California.
