Vermont To Review Training In Aftermath Of Trooper Death

Vermont State Police
Trooper Kyle Young

The Vermont Public Safety commissioner is ordering a review of training processes in the aftermath of the death of a state trooper who was trying out for the Tactical Services Unit.

Commissioner Keith Flynn made the comments Monday after the Vermont Health Department released the death certificate for 28-year-old Trooper Kyle D. Young.

The medical examiner ruled Young's death an accident from "exertional heatstroke." The section on death certificate noting how injury occurred states  "strenuous physical activity in high environmental temperature."

Young, of Monkton, collapsed at about 1:40 p.m. Sept. 17 during training at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Records show the high temperature that day was 86, but humidity was not excessive.
