The Vermont Attorney General's Office says the top scam of 2014 in the state dealt with callers saying they were from the Internal Revenue Service and requesting back taxes.
The calls headed a Top-10 list of scams provided by the office Tuesday in recognition of National Consumer Protection Week, which is March 1-7.
Other scams on the list involved calls for fake debt collection; phishing for remote access to computers, banking accounts and credit card information; sweepstakes and lotteries; identity theft; grandchildren impostors asking for money; and fake rental listings on Craigslist and other websites.
