Vermont Senator Introduces Measure To Reverse Citizens United

Five years after the U.S. Supreme Court issued it’s controversial Citizens United campaign finance ruling Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced a constitutional amendment to undo the ruling.

The 5-4 decision issued in January 2010 allows corporations and labor unions to spend as much as they want on elections for Congress and the president.

Sanders says Citizens United puts American democracy under attack.  “If we are concerned about restoring the middle class in this country, we have got to overturn Citizens United which, in my view, will go down in history as one of the worst Supreme Court decisions ever. Furthermore we have got to move toward public funding of elections.”

Sanders introduced a similar amendment in the last session of Congress.
