A mix of rain and snow is hitting parts of the Northeast as many start their Thanksgiving travel. The storm is forecast to last into the evening, dumping more than a foot of heavy, wet snow.The Massachusetts Turnpike was packed Tuesday with many embarking on their holiday travel one day ahead of schedule as the brunt of the storm is expected to continue throughout Wednesday. Governor Deval Patrick urges caution for those on the roads.
“The biggest concerns are visibility on the roads during the afternoon travel times when the snow is at its peak out in central and western Massachusetts,” Patrick said. “Also the fact that the snow we get will be heavy and wet which brings greater risk of downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.”
Patrick says crews have pre-treated the roads and utility companies are ready to respond to any power outages.
