Vermont US House Challenger Driven By Federal Debt

wikipedia.org

Vermont's Republican U.S. House candidate Mark Donka says the size of the federal debt is what prompted him to run for office a second time against incumbent Democrat Peter Welch.

It's a rematch of Vermont's 2012 U.S. House race in which Donka lost to Welch by 53 percentage points.

Donka is continuing to work full time in his job as a Woodstock police officer.  He campaigns against Welch in his free time.

Welch says he's running again so he can continue his work to make Congress work and improve life for the American middle class.

Donka says his campaign is hampered by a lack of money. He expects to spend between $10,000 and $15,000.

As of October 15th, Welch had $1.6 million on hand.
