The University of Massachusetts has named a Springfield native to run the university’s first satellite campus which opens this fall in a downtown Springfield office tower.
The newly appointed operations director for the UMass Center at Springfield, William Davilla, said construction is on schedule for classes to begin Sept. 2nd. Staff is being hired and students are being recruited.
" We've been doing a lot of advertising and a lot of one-on-ones. We've had faculty meeting with prospective students. We are feeling really good about this first semester," said Davilla.
Davilla said the nursing program seems to be the most popular of the 40 course offerings ,so far. UMass officials picked Springfield for the system’s first satellite campus to afford an opportunity for people unable to take classes at the flagship Amherst campus.
