VT's Shumlin Tapped To Co-Lead Drug Abuse Meeting

National Governors Association

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin will co-lead an effort by national governors to reduce prescription drug abuse.

Shumlin, a Democrat, will be paired with Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, a Republican, to lead this year's nationwide Prescription Drug Abuse Reduction Policy Academy.

Shumlin says he's "gratified that the National Governors Association is focusing on this critical issue and recognizing Vermont's leadership in addressing prescription drug abuse."

The NGA says that prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the United States and second only to marijuana as the most common type of drug abuse among teens.

Shumlin and Sandoval were in Washington for an NGA meeting.
