VT Trooper Says Cold Cases Are Important Issue

A top Vermont State Police criminal investigator says unsolved homicides are an important issue for the state and supports the addition of a cold case investigator position.

Major Glenn Hall, the commander of the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, spoke to lawmakers at the Montpelier Statehouse on Wednesday.

Hall says an investigator dedicated to cold cases could devote energy to the time-intensive process of re-addressing inactive cases without also juggling the demands of new cases.

According to Hall, there are at least 57 unsolved homicides and more than 30 inactive missing person cases in Vermont dating back to 1946.

Rep. Patti Lewis is sponsoring the bill to create this position and says her motivation is bringing closure to the families involved.
