City Councilors in Springfield, Massachusetts on Monday will consider a pay raise for the mayor.
The $95,000 annual salary for the mayor in Springfield has not changed in 16 years. Mayor Domenic Sarno believes a raise is overdue, but he said he does not want the debate to become a referendum on his job performance
The Springfield Chamber of Commerce in a report to the city council in May recommended a $40,000 increase in the mayor’s salary. The report said it was justified considering the duties of the office, a comparison of other mayors’ salaries and about 100 Springfield employees are currently paid more than the chief executive.
