Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin and the head of Federal Emergency Management Agency operations in the state say they've never seen such a series of flash flooding events as have hit the state in recent weeks.
Shumlin and FEMA's Mark Landry made the comments Tuesday in Williamstown where they surveyed damage in the latest Vermont community to be hit.
The Williamstown cleanup comes as FEMA teams are spreading out across the state to see if flooding damage in other communities is extreme enough to warrant the state applying for a federal disaster declaration.
Shumlin says the rain in Vermont has been nearly constant since Memorial Day. He says it's discouraging.
Landry called the series of localized floods extraordinary.
